i'm starting to confuse myself with all the different ideas i want to incorporate into my building. i really like my initial geometry and i'm trying REALLY hard to keep it but the forms are not connecting with each other. by making it more parrallel using regulating lines i think i am figuring out a working plan. the spaces are making more sense.

starting to design

thinking about how to design the 3 schemes wasnt as hard as i thought it would be. my favorite one to go off of was the site scheme, though. here are some of the things i am thinking about to develop it more:
to relate to other areas on campus:
-have underground program
-transitioning from above ground circulation to a mimic of it underground
-angles of the carpenter center and relationship of the grid
-sculpture by underground library
other ideas:
-unsymetrical
-tension between areas
-make you think about your experience by having area that you need to question
-having a random generation of forms
-intersection of grids/ideas/thinking
-transition from "book life" to "art life" (freedom vs structure)
-alternating views
these are just some of the ideas i am thinking about to progress my design.

site analysis

i'm trying to figure out a way to do an "octopus-like" effect with the site. The area around the library's works well for this. there are a lot of ways to manipulate the site in order to mark different views along the movement of the site/building. i'm going to explore this area more today.

turning a painting into a landscape into a building?

For the second project I concentrated on a few main points from the Churuchet House. The angled facade, natural ventilation, framed view, open areas, and ramps caught my eye. In the end, I implanted the building into the facade and concentrated on the angles and open areas.

manipulating a painting

So I guess I should probably start writing in this blog. The first project was actually pretty interesting. We manipulated a painting to better understand the cubist view. There was different interpretations everytime, not only between different people but with each time I looked at it, too. Some of my ideas were to smush, expand, or fold the different images inside the painting. Folding it back vs. folding it foward could have a whole different meaning. Then I figured I would cut it in all sorts of angles because you have to look at it in all angles to paint this cubist painting. By the end of the first project I had a whole new sense of what cubism is. I realized a few different things about my painting. It was in a way a labyrinth. Also, there was only one diagonal which switched views such as a plan view. It became a transition. There were also many different layers even though there were only two objects. I thought of this project in a static structural view rather than spaces of each piece in a room. I will put pictures up later of the different ideas.
